Emerald Rose as a musical group came together sometime in 1996, with our first "official" performance on St. Patrick's Day 1997. We were friends first, working together on projects that varied from landscaping and stonemasonry to the study of ancient religions. At night, we'd play Magic:The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, or other such creative pastimes, and gradually we found a synergy in our musical interests. Though our styles and backgrounds were diverse, we all shared a love for our ancestors' Celtic traditions, and a desire to see this musical heritage grow, thrive and evolve.

We started with a few "Silly Wizard" tunes and a few originals, and after a number of "campfire gigs" we were encouraged to get ourselves out in front of an audience. It wasn't long until we realized this was what our hearts truly wanted to do, and the band took on a life of its own...guided by the Muses of Inspiration!

Our first CD was produced in 1998 in two whirlwind studio weekends. This CD, "Emerald Rose", was very well-received by a growing and supportive community. CD sales (plus some serious gigging at pubs, festivals and small venues) allowed us to fund our second CD "Bending Tradition" in 2000. We expect this CD, along with our MP3.com efforts, to be a "springboard" to a much larger national and international audience for our music. We've found that we love performing nearly as much as creating the music, and we especially love the energy of an enthusiastic audience!

Emerald Rose is many things, a blend of musical style that's evolving in ways even we can't always anticipate. From Celtic tradition, to modern ballad, to folk, pop, rock & roll and even zany chicken songs...who know's what's coming next? The Wyrd Sisters

We are a trio of pagan/feminist singer/songwriters. We are noted for our lyrics and harmonies though we weave intricate instrumentation around the voices. Our topics are spiritual and intensely personal. We have songs like 'The Solstice Carole'(self-explanatory),'Inside the Dreaming'(about seeing the truth outside of accepted reality)and 'Warrior' (embracing one's own power) between 3 recordings. What has been unusual for us is how we have been so well recieved by mainstream public. It's downright encouraging.

Gaia Consort

Gaia Consort sounds like a movie sound track for the gathering of the tribes. Imagine a thousand naked hippies dancing around bonfires in the woods to drums the size of Gallo’s fermentation tanks. Add to that some intelligent lyrics about evolution, sensuality, engaging the natural world, and then throw in a string trio. Imagine Ian Anderson dropping acid with Peter Gabriel and doing a mash-up between So and Thick as a Brick.

Christopher Bingham and Sue Tinney got themselves booked into Nudestock 97 and announced the new name, played some of the new stuff, and the crowd was on it’s feet . In 1999 and 2001 the Consort released Gaia Circles and Secret Voices to critical acclaim in all the major Pagan magazines and a fair number of “mainstream” music journals as well.

Their next CD, Evolve, was released in April 2004 and it continues Bingham’s musical and philosphical explorations within the framework of an expanding Gaian Culture. Friends and fans donated over $17,000 by “adopting” songs to help Gaia Consort record the disc. Evolve is as much a product of a supportive community as it an individual vision.

Backing Bingham and Tinney are some of the Pacific Northwest’s finest musicians. Gaia Consort’s current line up includes Larry Golding violin, Sunnie Reed viola, Dan Ochipinti drums, Matthew Burgess on hand percussion, Jay Kenney, keyboards, Roberta Downey and Betsy Tinney, cello, Dan Mohler, bass and Larry Murante and Amy Read on backing vocals.

Gaia Consort has never been about making it big in the music “industry.” Eschewing the usual venues of clubs and coffee houses, Gaia Consort has managed to quietly build an audience that fills rooms, playing house concerts and self-produced shows in halls around the Pacific Northwest. They’ve built enough of a following to have been invited to play a variety of festivals and events, including headlining the long running Heartland Pagan Festival (2000) in Kansas, and Canada’s Wic Can Fest (2002) outside Toronto. Their concert celebrating Evolve filled the 400 seat Meydenbauer Center.
