Samhain Ritual 2001

Samhain is a time when the veil
between worlds is thin, a time for the Lady to grieve, a time to
honor death and the dead, a time to remember and revisit our
ancestors, a time for embracing loss, and especially this year when
the Blood Moon is waxing to full as the witching hour approaches, it
is truly a magical time.
Preparation: The Altar is set up
outdoors with candles for God and Goddess.., cakes and ale are ready
on the altar with the bell ,athame , chalice, and salt, A black
candle is set at the entrance to the circle for the Guardian,
Quarters are set up with candles in each; and water in the
West, and incense in the East, frankincense and dragons blood .
All participants are to have
written a petition on parchment (onion skin typing paper will do) of
those they would wish to visit us this night.
The HP anoints
each participant with oil on the forehead and gathers her group
under the rising bright Blood Moon and then rings the bell three
times around the circle beginning and ending in the North.
HP holds up and presents the water
to each quarter and all present and says:
Behold water giver of life
Then she takes the chalice and
pours the water into it and places it on the altar.
Taking the salt and presenting it
in the same way she says:
Behold salt preserver of life
Then the salt is added to the
water in the chalice, and the HP with her athame entering the chalice
from above says:
The Lord is to the Lady as the
athame is to the cup...let the salt and water mix and be purified for
our purposes tonight
The HP then takes the water and
sprinkles it around the edges of the circle saying:
With earth and water I consecrate
this space
The HP then takes the incense and
smudges the edges of the circle saying:
With fire and air I consecrate
this space
Beginning in the North the HP
faces each quarter and says:
By the earth that is Her
body turn to east
By the air that is His breath turn
to south
By the fire of His loins turn to west
By the water of Her womb turn to north
The circle is cast&ldots;May you
be at peace with your deities and yourselves
HP calls the guardian:
I call you Cerberus...join us
tonight...guard our circle...Let None Enter That Would do Harm

the quarters:

HP calls the Lord and Lady:
Lord come and stand with your
Lady, for tonight you suffer death and journey to the Summerland,
bring to us the wisdom of your journey to come
Lights candle
Hail and Welcome Lady come preside
over our circle tonight, bring the peace of your grief and your loss,
for tonight your Consort journeys to the Summerland
Lights candle
Hail and welcome
HP prepares the cauldron for
petitions, executes a fire invoking pentagram and says:
Bring your petitions to the fire
and as they burn, ready your self to welcome those you wish would
visit tonight and think on the purpose of that visit...
HP then lights the fire.
After all petitions are in and
burning the HP leads this chant:
Fire fire burning higher bring
those to us that we desire
Fire fire burning higher bring
those to us that we desire
Fire fire burning higher bring
those to us that we desire
Continually raising energy until
the fire extinguishes..HP then says:
We send this energy to open the
gateway and prepare to receive those who wish to visit.
She raises her arms and sends the energy
All gather sitting on the earth
the HP still standing says:
Once a year we gather to honor
those who have gone before...to invite those who would be with us to
join us and celebrate with us...at this time when the veil is thin...
We Honor You...We Welcome
You...Come Join Us Now...
Come ...Elizebeth...George...each
in turn calls those near and dear to them that have traveled over
After all have been welcomed to
the space the HP says:
All here join in celebration by
sharing Cakes and Ale
HP offers thanks to the Lady for
her bounty:
Lady we thank you for your gifts
to us of the grain of the earth and the fruit of the vine...
We will have a round of thanks for
those who chose to be with us.
Here each in turn gives thanks and
breaks bread and takes wine(the sacred welches can be used here if
you so choose)
HP then drinks the balance of the
ale and says:
We thank those who have visited
and celebrated with us..and now it is time to go back to the
Summerland...Hail and Farewell all say Hail and Farewell
HP says:
The gateway is closed till this
time next year...Remember this night till then...
HP now closes the
circle..beginning with the Lord and Lady:
And then closes the quarters ( or
the designated adepts ) beginning in the North and then each quarter
in turn moving widdershins.

tonight and sharing this special night with us
