Grimoires: A History of Magic Books TWPT talks to Owen Davies

Owen Davies is Reader in Social History at the University of Hertfordshire. He has written extensively on the history of popular magic, witchcraft, and ghosts. The history of grimoires is more than just the history of magic - it illuminates many of the most important developments in European history, from the spread of Christianity to the settlement of the New World.  Davies traces the history of this remarkably resilient and adaptable genre, from the ancient Middle East to modern America, offering a new perspective on the fundamental developments of western civilization over the past two thousand years. Grimoires shows the influence magic and magical writing has had on the cultures of the world, richly demonstrating the role they have played in the spread of Christianity, the growth of literacy, and the influence of western traditions from colonial times to the present.

Raymond Buckland

The Romani Tarot Deck by Raymond Buckland
An Interview by Melanie Harris

Author of nearly 60 books and an expert on countless occult topics, living legend Ray Buckland, called the "Father of American Wicca," continues to make contributions to the Tarot and Pagan communities.  His enormously popular, hard to find, and highly sought after Buckland-Romani Tarot, illustrated by Lissanne Lake, will soon be back in print, scheduled for publishing at Galde Press this Spring.  I wanted to talk to Ray about what it takes to be a great Tarot reader, and find out the details about his latest creation and his upcoming projects.

Known as "The Father of American Wicca," Ray Buckland was responsible for introducing Wicca to the United States. He was the author of the first American book on the Old Religion written by a witch - WITCHCRAFT FROM THE INSIDE - and has since written nearly sixty others, including the classic BUCKLAND'S COMPLETE BOOK OF WITCHCRAFT and the three encyclopedias: THE WITCH BOOK, THE FORTUNETELLING BOOK and THE SPIRIT BOOK.
